Reminder for Charities that are Incorporated Societies
With the new Incorporated Societies Act 2022 now in force, we would like to remind all registered charities that are incorporated societies, that you will need to re-register with the Companies Office before 5 April 2026, if you have not yet done so. There are also a number of new documentation, reporting and audit requirements that will be required to be complied with.

Companies Office website also contains information and resources to help you with the new registration requirements. You can also contact the Companies Office by emailing engage@societies.govt.nz.
As a reminder, once you have reregistered with Companies Office, you will also need to notify Charities Services of any changes to your charity’s details and also upload any new required documents (for example the new rules document) via your charity dashboard.
We would also like to bring to you attention a Need to Know – Accounting Update session that the External Reporting Board (XRB)will be running on 14 November 2024. The session will cover the new financial reporting requirements for incorporated societies, including an overview of the Tier 3 and 4 Standards and what to consider from a financial reporting perspective. You can register for the event here.
